A water fall, river, pure water. You feel relaxed by the water running through the shrine, but the serenity lies in its divinity. If you visit Tado Taisha Shrine (多度大社), you'll realize how Shintoism is related to the nature.
Behind the main alter, there is a water fall and river from the fall flows throughout the shrine. These water flows help us relax and feel comfortable. You can go to its riverbed and touch the water; simply it's crystal clear and tastes good; nothing disturbs your skin and throat
The place where the shrine is located is away from the metropolitan area, so actually it can help us forget hectic moments in the city and we can regain strength to get it through. It's worthy for run-away travelers to visit for regaining your strength.
Tado Taisha Shrine is located in Kuwana, Mie and the enshrined god is Amatsu Hikone, the third son of the supreme goddess "Amaterasu" and its son Ameno Mahitotsu. Since the main god is in line of the supreme goddess in the Ise Grand Shrine, it was said that people who visited the grand shrine should visit Tado Taisha shrine to say hello to the goddess' son.
As a shrine entity, it was established in 5th century, AD but it is confirmed that there had been the religious services even before its establishment by an archaeology research; stones used for rituals were found in the mountain and it implies that people of the time saw the Tado Mountain behind the shrine as the place gods live and initiated their own prayers.
After the official establishment, the shrine kept expanding since legendarily, Amaterasu, the mother of the god in this shrine, is the ancestor of the imperial family, the imperial court gave a donation to this shrine in the past; in the myth, Amatsu Hikone is an ancient "uncle" to the imperial family of Japan.

Besides the natural factor, since the shrine is a place for gods to exist, it's being simple and clean environmentally. You may not believe there surely is a god but you would feel its serenity is not coming only from the natural beauties. Shintoism is basically comprised of worships to nature; enjoy seasons, find a meaning in the nature such as rain, wind, humidity and so forth. In the Tado Taisha Shrine, you may realize this basic principle embedded at the core of its religious dogma; you simply feel "awe" throughout your body.
In addition, whatever you think, since it's a shrine, there are many believers for the enshrined gods. I saw priests cleaning the alters with their sincere heart. I personally believe in god but even if there should not be any gods, the sincere hearts from the people did generate the serenity in the shrine.
